Papertrey Ink November 2016 Blog Hop Challenge

As soon as I saw this month's inspiration photo for the PTI November Blog Hop, I knew I had to find the time to make a card. I was pushing it to the last minute and got it done last night. The whole inspiration picture makes me want to put together a beautifully staged scene to tuck the card into though!

Anyway, enough babble, onto the card!

I took a bit of a shortcut in the sense that I already had these ornaments from Vintage Ornaments II already mostly stamped and cut out from a previous project. I picked my colours from the photo. I decided to go with Hawaiian Shores for the background, white and gold embossing tree elements on that and then the ornaments are Raspberry Fizz and Lovely Lady, Simply Chartreuse and Limeade Ice, and Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, and Harvest Gold. I also brought in silver for the ornament toppers.

Once I had those all set to go, I stamped by background to make it appear like a small view of a white tree. I used one of the branch images from Holiday Greens. I embossed that in white and brought in a small trio of dots from the Wreath of All Seasons set and embossed that in gold.

I stamped the ornament strings in black and then adhered the ornaments with dimensional tape. The greeting comes from the Christmas Ombre Sentiments set. I really love this set because the sentiments are all a decent length and fit into spots that others normally wouldn't. I thought it was a good fit here.

To make my little scene pop, I mounted that on black and then gold.

Star Search Project- Peace Be With You

Hello! I'm a bit delayed in posting, but I'm super excited to share today's project with you! I designed this one for the Papertrey Ink Star Search contest. The challenge was to make a video featuring at a holiday/winter project. The video needed to feature on-camera face time for at least 50% of the running time and be less than 3.5 minutes. Please be sure to head there to check out the videos and vote! I am honoured to be one of the finalists!

The card features blending and stamp layering.

I started with a piece of White Stamper's Select card stock. I blended Pinefeather, Tropical Teal, Hawaiian Shores and Aqua Mist to make an icy blue-green type background. Next I took snowflake images from the Peace Be Still set and stamped all over, layering Pinefeather snowflakes over the blended Pinefeather and Teal parts, and then Teal snowflakes over the Teal and Hawaiian Shores parts, and finally Hawaiian Shores snowflakes over the Hawaiian Shores and Aqua Mist parts.

Next, I stamped snowflakes all over the entire panel using Fresh Snow ink (how appropriate!). As the project dries, the inks fade into the background and soften.

To finish it off, I cut out "peace" from the Wonderful Words holiday die collection. I layered a few pieces to give it more dimension. The rest of the sentiment comes from the Wet Paint Holiday stamp set stamped on a thin strip of Aqua Mist.

One thing I love about this technique is how versatile it is. Change up the colours and images and you really can use this for any occasion! Here is one I made using Papertrey Ink's Scarlet Jewel, Terracotta Tile, Canyon Clay, Orange Zest, and Summer Sunrise for the blended background and a leaf image from Harvest Berries.
